The Charger Club of Victoria’s Show and Shine 2014 was held at Melbourne’s Caribbean Gardens on Sunday 2nd February 2014.
The weather, unfortunately, followed recent trends and was quite hot and uncomfortable. This no doubt led to reduced numbers from last year’s event, and to overall numbers at the Caribbean Gardens Market. There was still, however, a great turnout for this year’s event.
This year’s Charger Club Show and Shine Day also celebrated the 40th anniversary of the VJ Charger, so it is absolutely no surprise that the majority of cars on display were in fact Valiant and Chrysler Chargers. There was also a healthy number of other Valiant/Chrysler models including Valiant Pacers and other earlier model Valiants.
To complete the picture, there was also a collection of other Chrysler imports, including Dodges, Chryslers, De Sotos, Plymouths, and so on.
We briefly caught up with Tim Smith, Melbourne comedian and radio personality, who is a long time Charger fan. Tim was gracious enough to pose for us in front of his beloved Charger. The boys from the Gasolene TV show were also there and interviewed a considerable number of proud car owners about their cars.
Our journey around the Chargers and other assorted cars was done to live music which really added to the experience.
There were a number of cars that caught my eye, including:
- A stunning metallic blue Charger
- Two Valiant Pacer convertibles, one in purple with number plate “WOG BOY”
- A couple of Dodge A100 series vans, both of which were for sale
- A glorious yellow Plymouth Barracuda
- A “tribute” Batmobile based on a 1970 VG Valiant
There were, of course, many, many beautifully prepared cars on display which are a real credit to their owners.
