Classic Car Photography made a brief visit the Charger Club of Victoria’s Show and Shine Day held at Caribbean Gardens on Sunday 3rd February 2013.
Despite some early showers, the weather improved during the day to the mid 20s, which was perfect for a day such as this. Organisers were delighted with the turnout which numbered around 80 cars by 11.00 am and cars were still arriving.
Although the majority of cars on display were in fact Valiant and Chrysler Chargers, there were also a number of other Valiant/Chrysler Coupes, plus a collection of Valiant Pacers and other earlier model Valiants.
To complete the picture, there was also a collection of other Chrysler imports, including Dodges, Chryslers, De Sotos, Plymouths, and so on.
Of special interest was the chance to catch with Ray Iken and his 1971 E38 Valiant Charger which successfully competed at Bathurst in 1971 and is still road registered. We wrote a story about the Bathurst Charger a number of years ago for Australian Classic Car magazine and one of our photos appeared on the cover. It was also great to meet Brian “Brique” Reed who was one of the Charger’s drivers at Bathurst – he certainly had some tales to tell about the car and that drive. Brian was happy for us to take a photo of him with the car – thanks Brian!
Unfortunately we could only stay at the Charger Shown & Shine Day for a short time but the hospitality (and the live music) was great.
