SPECIAL FEATURES for 2013 INCLUDE:
110 YEARS OF HARLEY DAVIDSON – Ask anyone in the street to name a motorcycle and odds on the first brand they’ll think of is Harley-Davidson. Immortalised in films like Easy Rider, Harley has come to represent the freedom of the open road and the lifestyle of the modern urban cowboy. In 2013 Harley-Davidson celebrates 110 years of cool, and bringing good times and heavy metal to hundreds of thousands of its loyal fans.
100 YEARS OF ASTON MARTIN – Ian Fleming may have had him driving a Bentley in the books, but it was Sean Connery behind the wheel of a DB5 in Goldfinger that elevated the David Brown marque to the status of icon. But there is a long history behind the car from Newport Pagnell, founded 100 years ago by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. Success at Brooklands, Le Mans and the Mille Miglia provided Aston Martin with an enviable brand despite ongoing financial challenges and the post-WW2 leadership of David Brown saw the birth of some of the most desirable GTs in motoring history. More than a dozen cars from the first Victorian Motor Show will be on display to celebrate their centenary, proudly supported by Melbourne Museum.
100 YEARS OF CARROZZERIA BERTONE – Founded in 1912 by Giovanni Bertone, Carrozzeria Bertone has built an enviable reputation for its distinctive styling and the crafting of some of the most desirable cars of the 20th century. Working across many brands, Bertone is responsible for some true motoring icons including the Alfa Romeo BAT cars, the Fiat 8V, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint, the Iso Grifo, the Lancia Stratos, the Ferrari 308, the Maserati Khamsin and almost every Lamborghini model including the World’s “first” supercar, the Miura. In honour of this important design house’s centenary, Motorclassica will showcase an amazing array of cars representing the legend that is Bertone.
60 YEARS OF CORVETTE – The Chevrolet Corvette is to American motoring what Alfa Romeo or Ferrari is to Italian motoring. It encapsulates the American dream. It has spawned several variations and concepts, found success on the track (Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona, and Indianapolis) and film (Corvette Summer, Boogie Nights, Animal House and Con Air), and has been owned by the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Nicholas Cage, Burt Reynolds and Michael Jordan. It is a sports car for the ages and this year Motorclassica will host a sensational array of Corvettes from the first iteration through to the Australian debut of the new, 2014 C7.
50 YEARS OF LAMBORGHINI – In the 1970s and early 1980s, the bedroom walls of young boys all around the World had two things in common – Farah Fawcett and the Lamborghini Countach. The iconic Gandini-designed supercar rates as one of Bertone Design’s greatest triumphs, and the Countach will join an incredible selection of pristine Lamborghinis through the ages to celebrate the Italian marques.
