Ford Australia never made a Falcon XR coupe, but this car for sale on Unique Cars suggests that they probably should have.
In fact, there was an XP coupe but the coupe body style was dropped for the XR model. The good news is that Falcon XR introduced the GT range that was so successful for Ford Australia right up until the XB model (unless you count the XC Cobra as a GT).
Ford USA did, however, make a Falcon coupe similar enough to the Falcon XR, and it has surely occurred to many Ford fans that it would be a not too difficult job to convert a US Falcon Coupe into an Australian Falcon GT look-alike.
The Unique Cars website currently has one such GT lookalike available for sale at $95,000. Here’s what the advert says:
Car converted to right hand drive by John Taverna. Chassis and RRS coil over front suspension fitted .Completely smoothed engine bay. Exceptional finish and detail. 475 hp 393 Stroker Cleveland and c10 auto. Disc brake, 31 spline 9″ diff with 3.55 gears. The car is finished in XR GT Gold 2 pack with black XR GT interior.
