Bonhams (UK) will offer this iconic Pink Cadillac at no reserve at its Les Grandes Marques du Monde au Grand Palais auction in Paris on February 6, 2014.
This particular pink Cadillac Cabriolet is the star of the 1989 Clint Eastwood movie “Pink Cadillac”, which may further add to its allure at auction. The movie featured Clint Eastwood and Bernadette Peters and plenty of screen time for a 1959 Cadillac Series 62 convertible while the two main characters drove across the American West.
Cadillac didn’t offer pink as a factory option in 1959 and the Cadillac used for the film originally came from Cadillac’s Detroit assembly plant painted white with a 325-hp, four-barrel 390-cu.in. V-8 under the bonnet. It was painted pink especially for the movie role.
The Bonhams catalogue states
One of Cadillac’s best, the new power plant was almost completely overshadowed by the coachwork it propelled. With their pillar-less profile, huge tail fins, glitzy chrome, colour-matched interiors and ‘jukebox’ dashboards, the 1959 Cadillacs are peerless icons of a bygone age and among the most highly prized of all post-war American automobiles.
Restored in 1994, Bonhams describes as in generally good condition mechanically with ‘fair’ bodywork and interior. The convertible hood was renewed in 2013. Assorted memorabilia from the film ‘The Pink Cadillac’ is included in the sale and the car also comes with some UK registration documents.
This is a No Reserve auction but Bonhams expects the Cadillac to sell for AUD $38,000 to AUD $53,000.
