MSCA Victoria held round 2 of its 2015 Regularity, Super Sprint and Marque Sports Car championships at Calder Raceway on Saturday 14th March 2015.
Numbers were down for MSCA 2015 R2 at Calder, probably for a number of reasons:
- Competition for the Grand Prix
- MSCA events are not usually held on a Saturday
- Some drivers just don’t like competing at Calder
There were only about 60 competitors on the day, and a number of them packed up early.
Track configuration and condition were major concerns to many competitors and the Clerk of Course and the Stewards were kept very busy managing issues. At least one car was damaged from flying bitumen and others cars were damaged by other debris from the track and other cars. Officials had to flag off an area of track at the entry to pit lane straight and this had a very negative impact on the event.
Having said all that, there were many competitors who put in over 40 laps and were quite happy to be out on the track.
Entrants to MSCA 2015 R2 at Calder were a different bunch to those who were at Sandown for R1 in February. For instance, except for a few Porsches, there were none of the usual European cars (eg Renaults, Alfas, VWs, etc).
Although there were several Toyota 86 cars competing there were no BRZs.
A few bright orange cars caught my eye as well.
Of course we can’t forget the Clubbies and a whole range of other cars competing either.
It will be interesting see the overall MSCA reaction to holding further events at Calder.
