MSCA 2015 R4 at Sandown took place on Sunday 21st June with record driver numbers. It was a great success.
So highly anticipated was MSCA 2015 R4 that driver entries closed two weeks earlier than planned. With a bit of juggling by event officials and with necessary CAMS approvals, about 160+ entrants took to the track.
Whilst MSCA events are always very popular, entries for this particular event at Sandown were boosted by around 30 extra MG Car Club competitors, including 10 from the MG Car Club Geelong, plus a good handful of Minis. There were also a few more Fiats competing than usual, as Fiat was the nominated “Marque of the Meet”. Fiat car club members also had the opportunity to take their cars for a couple of parade laps around the Sandown track at lunchtime.
The MG Car Club also provided a good many officials to help the regular MSCA volunteers cope with the additional driver numbers at check in, scrutineering, and general marshalling during the day.
In addition to the MSCA’s Super Sprint and Regularity championships, there were another 20 or so entrants in the also very popular CAMS/MSCA Come & Try Day event. The MSCA Come & Try days are an excellent introduction to potential motorsport participants with a good combination of classroom tuition, track time with an experienced instructor in the car, and more track time driving solo. There was a great diversity of cars on the day, with the older cars competing in the Marque Sports Car classes and the more modern competing in the Super Sprint classes.
Given the number of cars competing at MSCA Sandown there were relatively few incidents although there were a couple of stops for oil on the track that were quickly cleaned up by the recovery crews. There were a few quite spectacular spin outs but fortunately only a couple of cars required towing off the track. Overall it was a great day at MSCA 2015 R4 at Sandown.

Good numbers are also expected at the next MSCA Phillip Island event on Saturday 25th July, 2015.
