MSCA Vic 2012 – Round 8 – Phillip Island

The Marque Sports Car Association Victoria (MSCA Vic) held the eighth and final Super Sprint and Regularity rounds for the 2012 season at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on Sunday 18th November.

This event attracted a larger than usual field for a number of reasons:

  • it was the last round of the 2012 season for the MSCA’s Regularity, Super Sprint and Marque Sports Sprint awards
  • it was a passenger session event
  • the FPV Club had included this MSCA event in their motorsport schedule

Racing was conducted in a total of 6 run groups, including Regularity, to take into account the large field, and also to accommodate the considerable number of dual drivers in some cars.

After a bit of a dubious start weather wise, the sun came out and the clouds blew away and there was a very fine day for racing.

Apart from the FPV Club, there were a number of entrants from the RS Owners Club, plus a few BMWs and what seemed to be a larger than usual contingent of Nissan/Datsuns.

Unfortunately this round was not without some drama, with an MG Midget going into a wall and the driver being taken to hospital in an ambulance.  He has a fractured shoulder but otherwise is doing well.  The Midget doesn’t appear to be quite so lucky.  This was in addition to a number of other less serious “offs”.

Around lunch time there were two passenger sessions with cars of all descriptions going around the track with passengers.  Several comments were heard to the effect that the drivers weren’t holding back on speed quite as much as the previous passenger session at Sandown.  Perhaps the better weather had something to do with that.

Regularity and Sprint events continued after lunch break and a fine time was had by all (with one possible exception).

The MSCA Vic is to be congratulated on the success of their 2012 season, and the changes to classifications of cars, the awards system, etc.

The 2012 MSCA Vic awards will be presented at the next event at Calder Park on Sunday 2nd December 2012 – this will actually be the first round of the MSCA Vic 2013 competition season.

We got a bit carried away with our photography and have uploaded a considerable number of images of the day to our image gallereies.
