The MG Car Club hosted Round 2 of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championship, VSCRC at Sandown on 18-19 May 2013.
The two day program provided plenty of action over practice and four race events covering several classes:
- Formula Vee
- Sports Sedans
- HQ Holdens
- Historic Touring Cars
- Sports Cars
- Saloon Cars
- MGs and Invited British Sports Cars
- Formula Ford
- Improved Production including BMW E30
Weather conditions on the Saturday weren’t great and there were a number of incidents which resulted in changes to the program on the Sunday.
Sunday weather started off pretty miserable and the track was formally classed as wet. By late morning, however, the weather had improved and the track was reclassified as dry, and the slicks came out.
Whether it was the weather or just determination of drivers in all classes to make up for lost time, competition was fierce and there were a number of incidents on the Sunday as well. The flaggies, recovery people and the safety car barely got a break all day. Whilst the competition aspect is fantastic, it is offset somewhat by the concerns and delays when someone does go off the track.
At around lunch time there was a memorial parade in honour of Barry Petersen who had a long and distinguished career as a motorsports official.
The MG Car Club is to be commended for their management of this event under sometimes difficult conditions.
The next round of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships will be held at Sandown International Raceway on 20-21 July 2013.
